It’s hard to believe we have already been in school for 4 weeks.  Mrs. Gentry our new Assistant Principal, has been telling me how impressed she is with your children – they are very polite and friendly!

Reporting absences or unexpected pick ups from school:  Please call our school with with these requests, or send a note in with your child.  We ask that you NOT email these requests, as it is the not the most reliable way to get the information to us.  Sometimes the receptionist may be away from the office, unable to check the computer, the email system may be down, etc, and then we might not get your email.   The phone will always be answered and voicemail will always be checked.

Open Gym begins Monday, Sept. 26, 2016, at 8:00 am.  (Thank You, Mr. J!)  Please do not drop your child off prior to 8:00 am.

No Music Sept. 26 and 27, 2016:  Look for a note from our music teacher, Ms. Hannah Chambers about this lesson.  I know it sure will be difficult for me!

Parent Drop Off:  Now that children are familiar with the school, we ask that you “hug and go,”  which means hugging your child goodbye in the lobby and letting them go to their classrooms on their own.  This is an important step towards independence that children need.  Teachers will be waiting in classrooms greeting children, building relationships with them and helping them get the day started.  It is important for the children to show that they have learned the morning routine, and can get assistance from a classmate or teacher if needed.

Tiger Paw Pride Assembly:  You are invited to our Tiger Paw Pride Assembly on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at 1:10 pm!

Open House:  You are invited Thursday, September 29, 2016 from 6:00 – 7:15 pm.   Visit classrooms, shop at our Book Fair, order a Tiger Paw Pride t-shirt, purchase a Tiger Paw Pride decal.  Next week is our highly anticipated Open House.  Please join us and check out your child’s classroom, catch up with old friends, and visit the book fair in the gym.

School spirit and a sense of community are important aspects of school culture.  The faculty at Derby Elementary School takes pride in making our school a great place for children to grow and learn.  Help us celebrate Tiger Paw Pride by ordering a school t-shirt and purchasing a decal.

Please check out the display in the gym at Open House on September 29th where the shirts will be on display for sizing purposes. The shirts will be available to order that night and from September 30th - October 10th.  An order form is attached, and will also be available on our website (http://des.ncsuvt.org) or in the office if you are interested in purchasing.  Students should turn order forms and payment into their homeroom teachers.  You will be notified once the shirts are ready for pick-up.

You can also purchase a decal (or two, or three) for $ 1.00 each.  Proceeds will go to a fund which pays for special events that support our “Tiger Paw Pride” throughout the year.  We are hoping to get everyone in the spirit and excited about being a Derby Tiger.  Thank you for your support.
