December 1, 2016

Seasons Greetings!  I hope you enjoyed the Thanksgiving holiday.  I was lucky to spend almost an entire week with my daughter, as she was on break and visiting from UVM.  While I miss the younger years, there is so much to be said about seeing your child as an adult.

So we had an extra day off this week.  I apologize for the number of calls you may have received.  The call to delay or cancel school normally gets sent out by the Superintendent’s office at NCSU.  The call delay was supposed to go out at  5:30 a.m., and it did not, and we thought there was something wrong with the system.   By 6 am, I decided that we should try and send our own call out from Derby.  Then the NCSU call went out, and then they quickly sent another message canceling school.  Just to make sure parents were informed,  I decided to send another call out at 8:45 am about the cancellation in case parents figured all the calls in quick succession were about the delay and hung up without listening to the message.  I apologize for any inconvenience, but it is so difficult and unsafe if children show up at school when no one is here.  This school cancellation makes the last day of school for children Thursday, June 15, 2017.
