Preparation for Town Meeting occurs mostly in December and January so that our budget and required school information can be printed in the Town Meeting book by the January deadline.  As I wrap this process up for Derby Elementary School, I am again reminded of how lucky our children are to live in such a supportive community and are taught by caring, dedicated teachers and staff.  I am so happy to be here, where quality education is valued.  Our February News Brief will be published next week, which will contain the annual report from the board president on behalf of the board, as well as my annual report on the school.  This will give you a sneak peak (prior to the annual Town and School Report) about our budget and curriculum and instruction initiatives.

Due to this past week’s school cancellation, the last day of school for students is June 19th.

Coming up at Derby:

Gr. K-6:  Friday, January 27 is a Farm to School Taste Test in the cafeteria, prepared by 6th graders and featuring parsnips!

Gr. 4-6:  Winter Activity Day money is due Thursday, Feb. 2.    Due to numerous concerns that are interfering with the logistics and supervision of the children, lunch may NOT be purchased at Jay Peak.   Children must order a sack lunch from our kitchen or bring their own from home.  Sack lunches should be ordered from our kitchen by Thursday, Feb. 2.  The next Winter Activity Day is Monday, February 6, 2017.
