Special Guidelines for Winter Outdoor Clothing

All children and staff members should come with jackets, hats, mittens, and boots to be comfortable when playing outside and getting fresh air.

It is now BOOT SEASON!  Children are required to wear boots on the playground. Not only is this for their own safety, but for cleanliness as well. Our playground is large and has sections that stay muddy and underwater for portions of time. Tracking wetness and mud into the building and classrooms and having wet socks and shoes creates a problem for children and staff alike. Outdoor boots stored in the hallways keeps our classrooms dry and clean and is respectful of our custodians. Students need to have a change of footwear for indoors. During boot season, children without outside boots will play on the cement only.

Gr. PreK-3 – All students in grades K-3 must have snow pants on when they go outside to play on the equipment or on the fields. Those without snow pants will play on the cement.

Gr. 4-6 – All students in grades 4-6 may play outside in the fields and without snow pants, but must have boots, or they will have to play on the cement.

Indoor Recess Determination

If it is raining or if the temperature is zero degrees or below (with windchill), children will have indoor recess.  This will be announced on the PA prior to recess.  If inclement weather occurs while children are already at outside recess, the adults on duty will bring the children inside.

Thursday, November 16, 2017:  Fueling Our School!  Stop for gas at the Derby Line Irving and Circle K will donate some of the proceeds to our school.  This is true whenever you fill up at Pump # 1, but on this day, between 3-8pm, we get proceeds for every gallon at ANY pump!  Bring your receipt from November 16, (with your name printed on it) to the box in the front lobby by Nov. 20, and we will draw a name for a $50.00 gas card. We use the money for our Winter Activities, Farm to School, Tiger Paw Pride, and Project Based Learning Programs.  Last year we earned $2,000.00 – thanks for your support!  We will have three more Fuel Up Days this year.  In addition, follow the Circle K Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/CircleKGreatLakes/ to enter our contest and have a chance to win one Fitbit Flex 2 Activity Tracker!

COMPOSTING to begin Nov. 17 at lunch!  That's right, thanks to the momentum and energy generated by the 3rd grade Project Based Learning unit, and the cooperation of 3rd graders and their teachers, our new Foreman of Maintenance Craig Hansen, our Tech guru Ashley Dewing, our Kitchen Manager Linda Bingham, our F2S Committe, and NEKWaste Management, we are ready to begin composting in the cafeteria on Friday, November 17, 2017.  November 17 is also the day that folks from GMFTS and NEK Waste Management will be visiting each class to teach about composting.  Here is a video of the 3rd graders composting during our trial run, produced to teach the rest of the school about our system. https://www.wevideo.com/view/1010320476

Reminder:   No school Nov. 22-24:  Happy Thanksgiving!
