Still Sweater Weather

April in Vermont means one thing: layers! Just a quick reminder that April can be a bit unpredictable—please help your child dress for the elements. Our outdoor time matters, even during this in-between season!

Inside, though, we’re shedding the winter slump and blooming with fresh ideas. From classroom celebrations to schoolwide initiatives, there’s a lot to look forward to in these next two weeks.

Spring Into Learning at Home

Spring Into Learning at Home
Looking for ways to keep the learning going outside of school hours? Here are a few spring-friendly ideas that blend fun, curiosity, and Vermont’s natural magic:
  • Backyard Scientist: Encourage your child to observe signs of spring—buds on trees, returning birds, mud puddles galore! Keep a little nature journal to draw or write about what they see.
  • Map the Melt: Go on a walk and notice where snow is still hanging on or where water is flowing. Talk about how the seasons change the landscape.
  • Weather Watcher: April’s full of surprises! Start a daily weather chart—sunny, cloudy, rainy, snowy, all of the above? This is Vermont, after all.
  • Mud Kitchen Masterpieces: Let them dig, squish, and mix! Playing in the mud builds sensory skills and imagination.
  • Spring Reading Picnic: Grab a blanket, a few books, and head outside (even if it’s just the porch). Fresh air makes reading extra sweet.
  • Plant a Seed (or a Wish): Start a small windowsill garden or decorate a jar with hopes for spring. Watching something grow is a powerful learning experience.
  • Kindness Buds: Just like flowers, kind actions grow over time. Try a family kindness challenge—one small act each day until break.
