Cornfield Mile Success!

Friday we laced up for our annual Cornfield Mile, and what a day it was! Students showed incredible sportsmanship, cheering each other on and celebrating every finish line crossed. The event was a reminder of the importance of lifelong fitness and the joy of moving together as a community. A special highlight was having Sergeant Garces from the Orleans County Sheriff's Department join the run...in all his gear!!! Proof that fitness and fun truly bring people together across all ages. Thank you to everyone who helped make this event a success!

Tiger Spotlight

Let's learn a little more about two of our very special Special Educators!

This week we’re shining the spotlight on Carly Lombardi, special educator

This week we’re shining the spotlight on Mrs. Lombardi, who you might know as one of our special educators, but did you know…

  • Her go-to comfort food are peaches!
  • The first concert she ever attended? Billy Joel
  • When she's not teaching, you might find her watching Next Level Chef or listening to Tim McGraw - "Humble & Kind"
  • If teaching hadn’t called her name, she might be a physical therapist
  • One more fun fact: She's backpacked through Europe!
We’re excited to see the positive impact she’ll continue to make for students and staff alike.

This week we’re celebrating Amy Carter, special educator

This week we’re shining the spotlight on Ms. Carter, who you might know as one of our special educators but did you know…
  • If she could only eat one food forever, it would be raspberries
  • Right now she's into Throne of Glass
  • A hidden talent you might not guess? She loves to can, and make a mean dilly bean!
  • If she wasn't working at DES, you’d probably find her working as a massage therapist
  • A song she'll never skip is Rose Garden, by Lynn Anderson (her Gramp's favorite song)
  • And a fun fact about her? She has sectoral heterochromia (check out those eyes)
We’re lucky to have her supporting our Tigers with this essential role!

ROAR Reminder

PBIS on the Bus
Our ROAR expectations—Respect, On Task, Always Safe, Responsibility—apply on the bus, too! Riding the bus is part of the school day, and these behaviors help every student get to and from school safely:
  • Respect: Use quiet voices and kind words with the driver and other students.
  • On Task: Stay seated, keep belongings in your space, and follow directions.
  • Always Safe: Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
  • Responsibility: Be ready at your stop, take care of your belongings, and leave the bus clean.
Families can help by reviewing these expectations with your child and reminding them that showing ROAR on the bus helps everyone start and end the day in a positive way!

Tigertastic Tips

Kindness Grows
This week, every class heard the story Kindness Grows by Britta Teckentrup, a beautiful reminder that the small choices we make each day can either strengthen or strain our connections with others. At school, we’re practicing how a kind word, a helping hand, or even just patience can “grow” strong relationships.

Families can build on this at home by noticing and naming acts of kindness: when siblings share, when a child helps clean up, or even when someone apologizes sincerely. The lesson? Kindness is like a seed—the more we nurture it, the stronger our community grows.
