This week we’re shining the spotlight on Jen Phillips, first grade teacher

This week we’re shining the spotlight on Ms. Phillips, who you might know as one of our first grade teachers, but did you know…

  • Her go-to comfort food are crab legs!
  • The first concert she ever attended? Kid Rock
  • When she's not teaching, you might find her someplace int the great outdoors and getting excited that deer season is coming soon.
  • If teaching hadn’t called her name, she might be homesteading
  • One more fun fact: She can make cool owl sounds with her hands!
We're excited for the positive energy and care she brings to her classroom everyday!

This week we’re celebrating Jennifer Ingram, special educator

This week we’re shining the spotlight on Ms. Ingram, who you might know as one of our special educators but did you know…
  • If she could only eat one food forever, it would be M&Ms
  • Right now she's into This Is Us
  • A hidden talent you might not guess? Juggling her children's schedules!!
  • If she wasn't working at DES, you’d probably find her working as a nanny
  • A song she'll never skip is The Way You Love Me
  • And a fun fact about her? She loves walking with her music blaring.
We’re lucky to have her supporting our Tigers with this essential role!

ROAR Reminder

Pumpkin Patch of Kindness
We’re continuing our celebration of Kindness this month with our very own Pumpkin Patch of Kindness!

When an act of kindness is shown, we’ll “grow” our patch by adding a paper pumpkin with their name and kind act.

Encourage your child to look for ways to be kind—big or small—so we can fill our halls with pumpkins (and positivity!) all October long!

Tigertastic Tips

Kindness Grows
This week, every class heard the story Kindness Grows by Britta Teckentrup, a beautiful reminder that the small choices we make each day can either strengthen or strain our connections with others. At school, we’re practicing how a kind word, a helping hand, or even just patience can “grow” strong relationships.

Families can build on this at home by noticing and naming acts of kindness: when siblings share, when a child helps clean up, or even when someone apologizes sincerely. The lesson? Kindness is like a seed—the more we nurture it, the stronger our community grows.
