Bus Drill Success!

Our bus drill this week was a roaring success! Students did an excellent job following directions, staying calm, and practicing safe, respectful behavior. A quick reminder: ROAR expectations apply on the bus, too—Respect, On Task, Always Safe, and Responsibility keep our rides smooth and safe for everyone!

Tiger Spotlight

This week’s spotlight shines on two incredible members of our Tiger Team—both named Jen!

This week we’re shining the spotlight on Abbie Santaw, kindergarten teacher

This week we’re shining the spotlight on Ms. Santaw, who you might know as one of our kindergarten teachers but did you know...
  • Her go-to comfort food is macaroni and cheese or pizza
  • The first concert she ever attended? Jonas Brothers
  • When she's not teaching, you might find her watching a Red Sox game.
  • If teaching hadn’t called her name, she might be a physical therapist
  • One more fun fact: Fall is her favorite season!
We're excited for the positive energy and care she brings to her classroom everyday!

This week we’re celebrating Jeanne Alexander, special educator

This week we’re shining the spotlight on Mrs. A who you might know as one of our special educators but did you know…
  • If she could only eat one food forever, it would be seafood pasta
  • Right now she's into the Seven Sisters series
  • A hidden talent you might not guess? She's an amazing knitter and jammer!
  • If she wasn't working at DES, you’d probably find her walking dogs
  • A song she'll never skip is Old Time Rock 'N Roll
  • And a fun fact about her? She and one of her high school buddies married identical twin brothers!
We’re lucky to have her supporting our Tigers with this essential role!

ROAR Reminder

This week our focus is On Task – Perseverance!

We’re talking about what it means to stick with something even when it’s hard. Students are practicing ways to stay focused, problem-solve, and keep trying when challenges pop up. Ask your child about a time they worked through something tricky this week!

Show Your Tiger Pride!

Don’t forget to wear your blue t-shirts this Thursday 10/23 for our Tiger Paw Pride Assembly! Let’s fill the gym with school spirit and celebrate all the amazing things happening at Derby Elementary School!

Tigertastic Tips

It’s that time of year in Vermont! We undoubtedly have the most beautiful playground, but it sure is cold and windy! Help your cub stay Tiger-Tastic by sending them in layers each day. A cozy sweatshirt and jacket makes recess more fun and keeps everyone ready to ROAR through the day, no matter what the weather brings!
