November 9, 2025

As the days grow shorter and the mornings a little frostier, our Tigers are settling into the season with focus, kindness, and curiosity. Classrooms are buzzing with learning, teamwork, and plenty of moments that make us proud. Thank you for continuing to send your children ready to learn, grow, and brighten these crisp November days.

Tiger Spotlight

This week’s spotlight shines on two incredible members of our Tiger Team.

This week we’re shining the spotlight on Olivia Trevisani, first grade teacher

This week we’re shining the spotlight on Miss T., who you might know as one of our first grade teachers but did you know...
  • Her go-to comfort food is nachos
  • The first concert she ever attended? Jonas Brothers and she saw them again this summer- full circle!
  • When she's not teaching, you might find her out walking her dog Nala
  • If teaching hadn’t called her name, she might be an interior designer
  • One more fun fact: She is the oldest of four siblings
We're excited for the positive energy and care she brings to her classroom everyday!

This week we’re celebrating Lydia Leigh, kindergarten teacher

This week we’re shining the spotlight on Mrs. Leigh who you might know as one of our kindergarten teachers but did you know…
  • If she could only eat one food forever, it would be chocolate covered strawberries
  • Something that instantly brightens her day: Her daughter
  • If she wasn't working at DES, you’d probably find her working as a researcher in a bio lab
  • And a fun fact about her? She has driven across the country twice!
We’re lucky to have her supporting our Tigers with this essential role!

ROAR Reminder

November Focus: Always Safe

Modeling Safety Everywhere
At school, we know students learn as much from what we do as from what we say! When adults handle frustration, conflict, or mistakes calmly and respectfully, kids learn that safety isn’t just about staying physically safe—it’s about feeling emotionally safe, too.
Tiger Tip for Families:
Try narrating safe choices out loud at home:
  • “I’m walking carefully on the wet floor.”
  • “I’m waiting my turn so everyone stays safe.”
These little moments show children what safety looks and sounds like in everyday life—whether you’re at home, on the playground, or in the grocery store!

"How Every Child Can Thrive by Five" – A Must-Watch TED Talk
Our staff recently watched a powerful TED Talk by 7-year-old Molly Wright called “How Every Child Can Thrive by Five.” In just seven minutes, Molly shares how simple, everyday interactions—like talking, playing, and connecting—help shape developing brains and build strong relationships. Her message reminded us that those same connections continue to make a big difference long after age five!
Tiger Tips for Helping Kids (of Any Age) Thrive
  • Talk Together — Keep conversations going! Ask open-ended questions about their day or interests.
  • Play and Laugh — Humor, games, and inside jokes keep connections strong and stress low.
  • Connect with Care — Eye contact, smiles, and one-on-one time show kids they’re seen and valued.
  • Encourage Effort — Praise persistence and problem-solving, not just perfect outcomes.
  • Stay Curious Together — Wonder about the world side-by-side: “Why do you think that happens?”
Whether your child is five or twelve, these everyday moments of connection fuel confidence, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning.
