A Chilly Hello

Brrr! With another cold weekend behind us and snow in the forecast, winter is definitely making itself comfortable. We hope you’re staying warm & cozy.

Safety Drill Update

On Friday, we completed an options-based safety drill, and our students did an excellent job. They listened carefully, followed directions, and handled the experience with maturity and calm. We were grateful to be joined by Officers Jacobs, Wells, and Wells from OCSD, who supported the drill and spent time in the building. These practices are an important part of keeping our school community prepared, and we’re proud of how seriously our students take them.

Tiger Spotlight

This week’s spotlight shines on two incredible members of our Tiger Team.

This week we’re shining the spotlight on Sarah Shaffer, kindergarten teacher

This week we’re shining the spotlight on Mrs. Shaffer, who you might know as one of our kindergarten teachers but did you know...
  • Her go-to comfort food is cinnamon rolls.
  • The first concert she ever attended? Counting Crows
  • When she's not teaching, you might find spending time with her family.
  • Her favorite place in Vermont (or beyond): Winter Park, Colorado
  • A song she'll never skip:
  • One more fun fact: She loves to travel.
We're excited for the positive energy and care she brings to her classroom everyday!

This week we’re celebrating Kristen Watters, 4th grade teacher

This week we’re shining the spotlight on Miss Watters who you might know as one of our fourth grade teachers but did you know…
  • If she could only eat one food forever: burgers and fries
  • Her favorite TV shows: Gilmore Girls
  • When she's not teaching, you probably will find her reading a good book.
  • Her favorite place in Vermont (or beyond): Any place that has some sun and a beach.
  • A song she'll never skip: September by Earth, Wind, & Fire.
  • And a fun fact about her? She coaches field hockey.
We’re lucky to have her supporting our Tigers with this essential role!

ROAR Reminder

Responsible Technology Use
We'll be talking with students about responsible technology use. What it means to take care of shared tools, use devices appropriately, and make respectful choices online.

We’ve also noticed an increase in damaged technology at school, which has been a good opportunity to revisit expectations around care and responsibility. We appreciate families reinforcing these messages at home as we work together to build strong digital citizenship skills.

Tigertastic Tips

Everyday Literacy
Literacy grows in everyday moments! Try weaving these into your routines at home:
  • Ask your child to tell you about their day from beginning to end.
  • Cook together and read a recipe or talk through the steps out loud.
  • On drives or errands, notice words on signs, labels, or menus.
  • Watch a show together and talk about the characters or what might happen next.
  • Encourage your child to ask questions and explain their thinking.
No worksheets required—just conversations, curiosity, and connection.
