May Moments at DES

May is here, and with it comes a season of growth, energy, and celebration! Classrooms are buzzing with learning, students are showing off their ROAR behaviors, and we’re beginning to look ahead to end-of-year events. It’s a busy (and fun!) time of year—thank you for being such an important part of our school community!

Construction Update: New Roof Coming Soon

You may notice some equipment and activity around the school over the next few weeks as we begin installing a new roof. This is an exciting improvement for our building! While we don’t anticipate major disruptions to the school day, we do ask that families help us keep everyone safe by staying clear of designated work zones—especially during parent pick-up.

ROAR Reminder

Our students continue to shine when it comes to showing what it means to ROAR! We’ve seen incredible examples of respect, responsibility, and positive choices across all grade levels. Whether it’s helping a classmate, staying focused on learning, or making safe choices, our Tigers are stepping up in big ways. Keep up the great work!

Tigertastic Tips

Growing Strong Problem-Solvers
At school, we’re helping students build independence and confidence when they face challenges. You can support this at home with a few simple strategies:
  • “Try Two Ways”: Encourage your child to try at least two different strategies before asking for help. This could be rereading directions, drawing a picture, or breaking a task into smaller steps.
  • “Pause & Think”: When your child gets stuck, prompt them with: “What’s one thing you could try next?” Giving them a moment to think (instead of jumping in right away) builds perseverance.
  • “Talk It Out”: Have your child explain their thinking out loud—even if you’re not solving it for them. Talking through a problem often helps them find their own solution.
  • “Break It Down”: Big problems can feel overwhelming. Help your child chunk tasks into smaller, manageable steps and celebrate progress along the way.
  • “Mistakes Help Us Grow”: Remind your child that it’s okay to get things wrong—mistakes are part of learning! Praising effort (not just the outcome) helps build resilience.
