May Moments at DES

This weekend, we send care and appreciation to all those who nurture, support, guide, encourage, and love the children in our lives. Mother’s Day can look and feel different for every family, and we recognize the many people who show up in mothering roles each and every day. Wishing comfort, celebration, gratitude, and love to all who need it this weekend.

Derby PACT Shoutout

A huge THANK YOU to the amazing members of the Derby PACT for absolutely spoiling our staff this week with treats, goodies, and thoughtful surprises! The support and appreciation shown throughout the week meant so much. Our staff works incredibly hard every single day to support, encourage, teach, problem-solve, comfort, celebrate, and care for students...and it was wonderful to see them feel celebrated in return. We are so grateful for the partnership and kindness of our Derby community!

ROAR Reminder

As we head into the final stretch of the school year, we’re asking our Tigers to dig deep and finish strong! Excitement is building for our end-of-year celebration, but we still have quite a few Mega Paws to earn before we reach our goal. We know our students are capable of amazing things when we work together as a community!

Families can help support this push by encouraging students to:
  • Come to school ready to learn each day
  • Show kindness and patience with others
  • Follow directions the first time
  • Use respectful words and actions
  • Keep trying, even when things feel challenging
  • Stay engaged and involved in classroom learning
This time of year can be tricky. Routines start to loosen and summer feels close. But it’s also one of the most important times to stay focused, positive, and connected. Every classroom, hallway, bus ride, lunch period, and recess is another opportunity to show ROAR expectations and earn those Mega Paws together.

We believe in our Tigers, and we know that with teamwork, encouragement, and a little extra perseverance, we can reach our goal and celebrate all the hard work from this school year together!

Tigertastic Tips

As the weather warms up and excitement for summer begins to build, routines still matter! A few ways families can help students finish the year strong:
  • Keep bedtime routines consistent
  • Encourage reading for even 15–20 minutes a day
  • Double check backpacks for notes, forms, and projects
  • Help students come ready to learn with water bottles, sneakers, and positive attitudes
These last few weeks are packed with learning, celebrations, and special events and we want every Tiger ready to make the most of them!
