First Week in the Books!

We made it through our first full week of school! A huge shoutout to our incredible Kindergarteners, who tackled big hallways, new routines, and full school days like absolute champs. We are so proud of how quickly all our students are settling into their classrooms.

Happy Labor Day Weekend
Enjoy a well-deserved three-day weekend! School will be closed on Monday in observance of Labor Day. Take this time to rest, recharge, and celebrate a fantastic start to the school year with family and friends. We look forward to seeing everyone back and ready to learn on Tuesday.

Character Counts

This week, our Tigers practiced what it means to ROAR — being respectful, responsible, safe, and ready to learn. We’re just getting started, but we’re already seeing lots of great choices, kind words, and helping hands around Derby. Keep the ROAR going at home, too! Every little choice helps build the kind of school community we want to be.

The Takeaway

What’s the story behind Labor Day? This weekend is more than the unofficial end of summer! Labor Day became a federal holiday in 1894 as a way to recognize the contributions and achievements of American workers.

Try this at home: Ask your child, “What jobs help our community?” Make a list together — from teachers and bus drivers to farmers, nurses, construction workers, restaurant workers, and beyond. Then ask: Which job would you want to try for a day, and why? You might be surprised by their answers!
