Run, Tigers, Run!

Friday is the CornField Mile! Whether your Tiger is a speedy sprinter, a leisurely lapper, or somewhere in between, this is about moving, cheering each other on, and having a ridiculously good time together. We’ll be celebrating effort, perseverance, and school spirit because around here, you don’t have to be the fastest Tiger to be a ROAR-some one.

The ROAR Report

PBIS at Home:
Try More “I Noticed…”
When we want kids to repeat positive behaviors, it helps to notice them when they happen.

Instead of:
 “Stop leaving your shoes there.”
Try:
“I noticed you put your shoes away without being asked.”

Instead of:
“Why are you still not ready?”
Try:
“I noticed you got your backpack packed before I asked.”

It doesn't mean we never correct behavior. It means the behavior we notice gets more likely to show up again. Tiny deposits in the positive-behavior bank.

When you catch your child doing something ROAR-worthy at home, name it! “That was really responsible.” “You noticed someone needed help. That was respectful.” Specific praise helps kids know exactly what they’re doing right.

The Takeaway

Read It. Talk About It.
You don't need to read a 300-page novel together to build a reader. Read a cereal box. Read the directions to the board game. Read the menu. Read one page of your own book while your child reads theirs. Then talk about it.
