Thank You for Showing Up!

Thank you to all the families who made time to attend fall parent-teacher conferences. We appreciate the conversations, questions, celebrations, and shared commitment to helping every child grow. A strong school-home partnership makes a difference!

And remember, conferences aren't the end of the conversation. Keep talking with your child about what they're learning, celebrate the progress they've made, and reach out to your child's teacher if questions come up or you'd like to check in. You don't have to wait until the next conference to connect!

The Real Treat? Our PACT!

A huge thank-you to our Derby PACT for putting together another fantastic Trunk or Treat! We appreciate all the time, creativity, treats, decorations, and enthusiasm that went into making the event so much fun for our students and families. Events like this don't just happen, and we're lucky to have such a wonderful group of people helping create memories for our kids. Thanks, PACT!

Cat Bandits on the Loose!

Our second grade team took their CKLA reading right off the page and brought Cat Bandit to life!  We love seeing our teachers having fun with reading and bringing a little extra character (and mischief!) to DES. Well played, second grade!

The ROAR Report

The Golden Bus Award Goes to...
Our brand-new Golden Bus Award recognizes studens demonstrating outstanding ROAR behavior on the ride to and from school. Our  Golden Bus Award goes to... Bus #2! Congratulations to the students, Mr. Mo, and Ms. Jenn of Bus #2!

Families can help us keep the good bus behavior rolling. A few things to talk about at home:
- Stay seated with your bottom on the seat and your belongings out of the aisle.
- Use a quiet, respectful voice so the driver can concentrate on the road.
- Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
- Follow the driver's directions the first time.
- Remember that the bus is a shared space. Everyone deserves a safe and comfortable ride.
A quick conversation at home about being a responsible bus rider can make a big difference. Let's see which bus earns the Golden Bus next!

The Takeaway

Falling Back: A Little Help with the Time Change
Daylight Saving Time ended this Sunday, November 1. While we all enjoy that extra hour of sleep, the shift can throw off little bodies (and big ones, too!). A few ways to make the transition easier:
- Get outside in the morning. Natural light helps reset our internal clocks.
- Keep bedtime routines consistent. Stick with familiar books, baths, and wind-down routines.
- Be patient. Kids may be a little more tired, hungry, or out of sorts for a few days.
- Get moving! Some outdoor play and physical activity can help everyone settle into the new schedule.
And remember, darker afternoons mean it's especially important for children to be visible when walking or waiting for the bus. Reflective gear and bright clothing are great additions!
